I opened thebrownhijabi.com in 2014, during my second year of University, as a place to post my thoughts and make sense of the world around me. Over a decade or more it became an independent publishing platform, a place for subversive critique of mainstream narratives, and part of the intellectual and creative foundations of my later work.

The writings explored race, Islamophobia, gender, feminism, decolonisation, identity and my experiences as a Muslim woman in Britain. Over the years it amassed over 243,000 views and reached readers far beyond its original purpose. I am now closing the original website, but preserving its writing here as an archive of where my work began and the ideas, questions and conversations that shaped what came after; as well as an archive of a time - that decade in which Islamophobia became the mainstay of British public life.
